Bringing Good Taste To The Masses

There is a generation of teenage girls  out there with no clue of good fashion sense. I have a 5 year old daughter and the countless amount of times in the last few years I've had to avert her eyes from a 14 year old girl's rear end hanging out of her denim shorts, or started a sentence with the words " If you ever dare go out dressed like...." is astounding to me as a mother and a woman.

Why is sloppy, inappropriate dressing becoming increasingly acceptable? I was raised to believe that good dressing shows that I care about myself and others. It'll be an interesting challenge as my adventures in fashion styling progress.

New Horizons

Well I got my act together and completed my styling course with the too-fabulous-for-words Miss Wendy Mak and the new challenges and excitement this new career will bring me are leaving me eager to get my hands dirty (or trendy) with new possibilities.

Ugly Trends That Need To Stop.

I've been observing a lot of trends lately that are dying a slow death. These ridiculous looking fashion dont's really should be dragged out to pasture and put out of thier misery. Two trends in particular are unflattering, unfeminine, and one is kind of inappropriate.

The Dark Pantyhose Under A Long Shirt Trend.

I don't know how this got off the ground, but it must stop. Now. It looks like the wearer left the house with no pants on. This is not cool or fashion foward, it just looks like the wearer has no pants on. A girl is not meant to leave the house without her pants.
Long leggings are passable under a long tunic/shirt with a cute blazer and ballet flats, but please girls, stop forgetting to put the rest of the bottom half of your outfit on with your panythose.

Those Ugly Thongs That Cover Up The Ankles.

Hands down, this is the ugliest trend of the Summer that is carrying on into Autumn. I've only ever seem them worn with denim shorts and they seem to only come in the most boring of colour combinations, e.g, black and army green. Probably because they're too hideous to be worn with anything else.
If you're after a cute pair of thongs, go to a surf shop and buy a pair of Havaianas. They're cute, are available in a million and one colours and patterns, durable, and well worth the 25 bucks (on average) you'll pay for them because they are versatile and you will live in them.

Hopefully with some faith, prayer, and better common sense from the Fashion Gods, ugly footwear and pantless dressing with soon be a thing of the past.

Dressing well is a lost art. From booty shorts on teenage girls, complete with visible underwear, top to toe animal print, and turning up to job interviews in jeans and t-shirts, we are losing our way when it comes to looking good.

The question is, why? Surely we women haven't become so time poor that putting ourselves together properly before we leave home in the morning is too much effort. Are basic style rules dying out? Do women simply not know how to dress anymore?

In starting off a new chapter in my life as a personal stylist, this is a question I plan on examining further.
